Berlin

Berlin was a pleasant surprise to us…albeit, cold for the time of year that we went!

We stayed in the OUTSKIRTS as we went to Berlin on the anniversary that the wall came down and just couldn’t find availability…so no rec there. But our friends stayed at  The Mandala Hotel and said “Great location just off of Potsdamer Pltaz with nice sized rooms.”

Things that we did and recommend:

Go to Checkpoint Charlie and go through the museum.  It’s very detailed, but not too long and the stories inside with attempted escapes and photography are very interesting

East Side Galleries: The stretch of the Berlin Wall still standing that has art painted all over it.  At the end, go to the west side to see the real grafitti that shows more of how the Berliners really feel. I wish I had taken more pics from this side.

Berlin Cathedral – one of the last things still standing that was built pre-war.

I would suggest doing a bike or walking tour. There’s so much history here.

For a real treat: Our friends loved this Michelin Star restaurant, Rutz Weinbar

Cheers!
